What is “Spiritual Bypassing” Why Is It Important Right Now?

My coach, Joanna Lindenbaum, brought this up recently, and this is one of the many reasons I love and respect her so very much.

Many of the “Gurus” or “Spiritual Leaders” out there in the midst of this extremely stressful time, are actually invalidating people’s feelings by telling them things like, “Just live in the light” etc.., (you know what I’m talking about).

And although that’s a lovely sentiment, (and if you’re Truly there—awesome—by all means be there) it’s actually called spiritual bypassing when these people invalidate another’s emotional struggle. The term was coined because it turns out that this becomes a form of abuse when people are inadvertently, (sometimes blatantly) shamed for feeling scared, angry, lost, sad, anxious, or anything other than, “high-vibe.”

Let me clear this up for you once and for all. Spiritual bypassing causes more harm than good. It’s often, actually, a very old paradigm cloaked in, “new age” attire, and it encourages a false or conditioned self rather than true connection.

You WILL feel a ROLLER-COASTER of feelings throughout this crisis. I’m here to NORMALIZE this for you and I am here for you. We are a healing circle WHEN we are safe enough to be truthful and vulnerable.

I’m not encouraging you to downward spiral into despair, or to stop doing the inner work of alignment! And again, if you’re truly there then good for you! I am reminding you that it will be far more challenging right now—some days it’ll feel like it’s not doable and that’s absolutely ok. Get the feelings out in a healthy way. Be seen heard and loved for where you’re TRULY at. This is how we move through it—Together.

Let’s continue to bring love, support, and honor all feelings during this time of overwhelm. You’re not alone, you’re not crazy or a freak, and I’m telling you that any shame you feel for being scared, angry, sad, or whatever—is entirely misplaced. It’s someone else’s narrative due to their struggle to deal with their own shadow. It’s about disowning a part of their humanity—and that’s their issue.

Release the shame and be who you were created to be—a fully alive, fully feeling, expressive, vulnerable, beautiful energetic human being. THIS is authenticity. Through our vulnerability we connect—We become a powerful healing circle. We are one in love and we will do this together.

I love you all—I’m here for you. Don’t try to do this alone.
